Hoops Kick Off California Road Trip With a 3-0 Victory
DUARTE, CA – Calgary Foothills WFC and Los Angeles SC played the rubber match on June 10th at Duarte High Stadium. Los Angeles hoped to trade home-game wins with Foothills WFC after Foothills claimed a 2-1 victory on home turf only five days ago on June 5th. A win for Foothills WFC means advancing to an undefeated 4-0, while Los Angeles looks to get back in the black, as a win would propel them to a positive 2-1-1 record on the season. Only Foothills WFC would get their wish, however, as a win packed with perfect goalkeeping and plenty of offensive pressure led to a 3-0 victory for the visiting team.
Foothills WFC applied early pressure in the game with a chance in the 10th minute, using speed down the wing and a crisp pass to set up an unobstructed shot. Los Angeles SC's defender managed to apply enough pressure from behind to force the shot wide, but not by much.
Pressure on the Los Angeles SC net continued only minutes later, as another centering feed found its way onto the foot of Foothills FC forward Mya Jones within the box. This time, the shot did not miss, and Foothills found an early lead at the 13th minute.
Los Angeles SC's Kaitlyn Roditis tried to answer back for her team, as a creative pass from her winger lead to a great scoring chance at the 24' mark, but the shot was quickly gobbled up by Foothills' goalkeeper Sarah Dilling.
Foothills WFC struck again at the 33rd minute, as tight checking and pressure forced a turnover in Los Angeles' end. Forward Mya Jones powered her way through the defenders to place another low shot under a diving Bozzi-Mackay to put Foothills up 2-0--a score which remained through half-time.
The two teams continued trading chances in the second half, as each goalkeeper made eight saves over the match. The quality of chances and goalkeeping remained in Foothills WFC's favour, however, and Grace Moore put a third goal past Los Angeles' Bozzi-Mackay in the 82nd minute to give her team a 3-0 lead. This goal would prove to be the last of the match.
Foothills WFC remains undefeated in the early season, continuing to a 4-0 record while Los Angeles falls to 1-2-1. Foothills WFC's next match is an away game against defending champions Santa Clara Blue Heat on June 12th. Las Angeles SC stays on home turf to face off against Impact FC on June 17th.
